A statement for the driver: The BMW Vision M NEXT gives a preview of what the electrified future of the BMW M brand might look like. Unlike the BMW Vision iNEXT, which showed how autonomous driving will change life on board, the BMW Vision M NEXT demonstrates how digital intelligence can make the self-determined driving experience purer and more emotional. The

exterior underlines this aspiration with its sports car proportions while the interior consistently places the driver at the centre of attention. Find out here how the BMW Vision M NEXT lends a new dimension to sporty driving pleasure.

THE POWER OF ATTRACTION.

The design of the BMW Vision M NEXT.

For the BMW Vision M NEXT, the BMW design team turned to the iconic BMW Turbo and the groundbreaking BMW i8 for inspiration. In line with the new BMW design strategy, the BMW Vision M NEXT exudes a powerful character with its sporty proportions and the presence of just a few, crisp lines.

"IN THE BMW VISION M NEXT, INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGIES SUPPORT THE DRIVER AND DISPLAY THE RIGHT CONTENT AT THE RIGHT TIME. OPERATION IS CLEAR AND INTUITIVE, WITH ALL INFORMATION PRESENTED IN THE DRIVER’S DIRECT FIELD OF VIEW."

Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design at BMW.

A STATEMENT FOR THE DRIVER.

The vision of tomorrow’s driving pleasure.

EXTERIOR DESIGN.

At the front, orange Air Blades extend from both sides towards the centre of the vehicle and, in conjunction with the blade-shaped air intake below the kidney grille, create a clear racing aesthetic. From a side view, the low-slung, wedge-shaped sports car silhouette, the contours ascending towards the rear and the diagonal, orange colour separation give the impression that the BMW Vision M NEXT is surging forward even when standing still. The rear sculpture combines the sides optically, thus emphasising the vehicle’s width. The technically designed diffuser is made of recycled carbon fibre and underlines the aerodynamic aspirations.

BOOST+.

The Power-PHEV drive of the BMW Vision M NEXT allows the driver to choose between four electrically driven wheels or a purist rear-wheel drive – purely electrically or accelerated by turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine. A system output of 441kW (600 hp) permits a top speed of up to 300 km/h and catapults the BMW Vision M NEXT from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds. The range in purely electric driving mode extends up to 100 km – in most cases this is sufficient to cover a large proportion of journeys purely electrically. Consequently, the BMW Vision M NEXT is also a future-proof sports car for inner cities with potential zero-emissions zones.

IMMERSE YOURSELF.

To ensure that concentration is reinforced with increasing pace, the information displayed in the BMW Vision M NEXT adapts according to what is known as the focus logic of speed: if the vehicle is standing still, the displays are shown in the steering wheel. When the driver sets off, the Curved Glass Display presents the information. If the driving situation calls for the driver’s full attention, the information shifts to the Head-Up Display. It is continuously possible to communicate with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

IMMERSE YOURSELF.

'We have used innovative materials to create a modern and luxurious interior. While its geometry is clear and restrained, individual details are showcased like high-quality accessories.'

Domagoj Dukec, Head of Design at BMW.

SHEER DRIVING PLEASURE REDEFINED.

The BMW Vision M NEXT embodies the future of the typical BMW driver orientation.

The BMW Vision M NEXT shows the next step of the typical BMW driver orientation. The entire interior focuses on the BOOST Pod. Geometry is consciously restrained so that the driver can concentrate completely on the driving experience.

ON A MISSION FOR THE FUTURE.

The design of the BMW Vision M NEXT is the result of an internal contest. BMW designers competed against one another with their hand-drawn sketches and visualisations. Several rounds took place to select the best designs until, finally, the draft to be implemented was picked out. The process from initial idea to complete vision vehicle took roughly 18 months.

“This type of implementation doesn’t function unless all those involved pursue the same target. This is why I’m very proud of my team, who have been working intensely on the project over the last few months”, says Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design.
